Newmarket July Course 2016

The Newmarket July races are this week folks and we thought we write a sentence or two about the occasion and why we’re excited!

Most may already know this but for those that do not, Newmarket is made up of two race courses:

  1. The Rowley Mile Course

    1. 1 mile 2 furlong straight

    2. Minor bends towards ‘The Bushes’ two furlongs out

    3. Second to last furlong is 200m downhill

    4. Last furlong is uphill, the two form ‘The Dip’

  2. The July Course

    1. Known as the summer course

    2. 1 mile straight known to many as ‘The Bunbury Mile’

    3. After 2 furlongs (400m) it’s a long downward stretch

    4. Last furlong (200m) is uphill

We’re excited for the following horses for these reasons:

Thursday 15:15

The Grey Gatsby(foaled 14 March 2011) is an Irish-bred, British-trained racehorse. In 2014 he established himself as one of the best colts of his generation in Europe by winning theDante Stakesand thePrix du Jockey Clubbefore defeating the dual Derby winnerAustraliain theIrish Champion Stakes. At the end of the year he was rated level with Australia andKingmanas the best three-year-old colt in the world. A consistent horse whokept on one pace, 4th of 6, 4 1/2l behind My Dream Boat (9-0) at Ascot 1m 2f Grp 1 stks (1) sft in June last time out, and we feel this one has an exceptional chance of reproducing his best form even his campaign is just starting for this season and he will be one to watch out for later this month at Ascot or in mid August at the Ebor meeting. One to keep on side.
Thursday 17:30
Final Frontier (IRE)9-1 (9-3) Dwelt, in rear, pushed along 3f out, no impression from 2f out, kept on same pace into 4th on line, 4th of 5, 5 1/4l behind Air Force Blue (9-3) at Curragh 7f Grp 1 stks (1) gd in Sep. This Jessica Harrington trained Colt has had an almost unblemished record and could have easily made it 3 from 3 but for an unclear run last time out. The Harrington team believe this one will improve further and would have come on for the experience of dwelling early on last time out at the Curragh behind Air Force Blue. Will be winning again soon.

The meetings will start from the 7th and run until the 15th July:

  1. Thursday 7th July

    1. First Race: 14:10

    2. Last Race: 17:30

  2. Friday 8th July

    1. First Race: 14:05

    2. Last Race: 17:20

  3. Saturday 9th July
