Qipco 1000 Guineas - Newmarket 2017

It’s the Qipco 2000 Guineas this Saturday. The famous Newmarket race is the first out of the five British classics and is quickly followed by the 1000 Guineas the next day. The 2000 Guineas is a group 1 flat horse race. Colts and fillies from 3 years old are open to enter into the contest. The overall distance is 1,609 metres (1 mile).

This year there are 12 horses declared with the winning prize for first place standing at £283,550.00. Of the runners lined up to race, Churchill is looking like the bookies favourite already after last season’s race record of 311111.

Churchill’s trainer Aidan O’Brien has already set hit sights on a historic eighth win at the event to make him the most successful trainer for the race. O’Brien’s last successful Classic race was with Gleneagles in 2015 which 3 weeks later also went on to smash the 2000 Irish Guineas too.
